The Mystery of Advent – Global Obedience

The Mystery of Advent – Global Obedience

Our response to the gospel is one of surrendering our entire life over to God’s design, authority, and glory.  The wonder of God’s love is that He is the one who enables us to do this!

Observations & Conclusions: The mystery in the gospel…

  1. requires the advent of Jesus
  2. is made known by the scriptures
  3. is extended to the nations
  4. is revealed for the unity of belief and obedience
  5. preserves the praise and glory of the God who is able

Application:

  1. Have you made the gospel “your” gospel?
    – established in your personal commitment to Jesus
    – established in your personal commitment to the scriptures
    – established in your personal commitment to the global church
    – established in your personal commitment to grow in obedience
  2. Make your life a doxology of God’s steadfastness

1 Corinthians 2:6-8

“We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”

Romans 1:1-6

“Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God— the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake. And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.”

Ephesians 2:8-9

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”
