The Spirit of God provides the Christian with both the accountability and power to fight against sin. Because the death of Christ has freed all those who identify in Him from a slavery to sin, there becomes therefore not only an expectation to battle the enemy of sin but additionally the scriptures also give us God’s strategy.
Observations: Prerequisite understandings:
- #1 – Righteousness – Only the morally righteous will see God
- #2 – Federal Headship – Our source of imputation
- #3 – Death’s Finality – Whoever has died is freed from sin
Conclusions:
- Jesus’ death provides our death to sin
- Know that, the fact of our identity in Christ must become the faith of our freedom in Christ
- Recognize, with conviction onto action, the purpose of the Christian, yet on earth
Application:
- Do not trust your feelings/emotions/temptations – know the truth
- Stop sourcing your strength in yourself – reckon yourself dead to sin through Jesus
- Live for God because you are alive to God
