The design of work has been corrupted by the sin and the fall. Where originally it gave fulfillment and joy, work has become for many a chore or a punishment to be avoided. This unfortunate perspective has crept its way into each successive generation, and today the avoidance of work is a symptom characteristic in young people that needs to be addressed within the church.
Definition – “Work means using your gifts of talent, time, and opportunities to glorify the Giver”
Observations & Conclusions:
What ought “work” look like:
- Disciplined – “Work” must be congruent with Biblical precepts
- Modeled – “Work” must be taught by example
- Rewarded – “Work” must have a “pay-day”
- Honorable – “Work” must be evidenced by integrity
- Fulfilled – “Work” must yield a net positive
Application:
Beware of:
- procrastination
- instant gratification
- recognition
Proverbs 24:30-34
“I passed by the field of a sluggard, by the vineyard of a man lacking sense, and behold, it was all overgrown with thorns; the ground was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.
