The Chosen One – The Son of David

The Chosen One – The Son of David

The coming of the Chosen One was described with the metaphors of “light” and “victory”, but more than anything he would be One to define and declare God’s kingdom and government.

Observations: Two aspects about the Chosen One:

The What?

  1. A Great Light will appear
  2. The people will rejoice in victory

The How?

  1. A Son will be born
  2. He will reign on David’s throne

– The way God’s people find victory is by following the government of His Son

Conclusions:

  1. Jesus is God’s ultimate expression of kindness
  2. Jesus is God’s ultimate expression of kindness to the nations
  3. Jesus is God’s ultimate expression of kindness to the nations forever

Application:

  1. Look to Jesus – Come out of darkness by looking to the Chosen One
  2. Follow Jesus – Live in the light by following the ruler’s governance
  3. Treasure Jesus – He is the answer for your darkness, burdens, and sin

2 Samuel 7:11b-16

“‘The Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you: When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’”

Luke 1:26-33

“In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

John 3:19

“This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.”

John 3:20

“Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.”

1 John 1:5-7

“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”

John 3:21

“But the one who practices the truth comes to the light, so that it may be plainly evident that his deeds have been done in God.”
