God’s blessings to Abraham create defining markers towards our understanding of God’s strategy of redemption for all nations. His blessings follow the pattern previous determined in creation and with Noah’s family after the flood. Ultimately, God’s blessings are His gracious gifts of equipping for His people to follow His design of representation and in His strategy of reaching all peoples in the redemption achieved by Christ.

Observations & Conclusions:

To be blessed by God is to be equipped to bless others
– Blessing is foundational
– Blessing is relational
– Blessing is dimensional
To be blessed by God is to be united in blessings
– Blessing is covenantal
– Blessing is ethical
– Blessing is conditional
To be blessed by God is to be woven into God’s mission
– Blessing is missional
– Blessing is multinational
– Blessing is Christological
To be blessed by God is to be given what you don’t deserve
– Blessing is grace
– Blessing is mercy
– Blessing is love

Application:

How has God equipped you by blessing you?

Galatians 3:16, 19, 26-29

16 The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,” meaning one person, who is Christ.

19 Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come.

26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Romans 10:14-15

“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
