The most vile of satan’s lies doesn’t show up in the highways and byways; the most heinous of lies are targeted right inside the church. False teachings have been a plague against the church from the very beginning. We must learn how to identify them and protect ourselves from their abusive deception.
Preliminaries:
- The worldview of the Biblical writers is that there are spiritual forces of good & evil, and God is in control of both.
- Perspective = the enemy’s attacks are always a test
Observations:
- False teachings will appear as wisdom, but they are an abandonment of the truth
- You judge others by your own standards, as if your rules are God’s
- You judge yourself as more righteous than others
- You miss the purpose of God’s law and seek credit for yourself instead of Jesus
- Those who follow false teachings are being influenced by demons
- False teachers have been deceived and are self-deceived
3 clear lines of deceptive false teaching:
(1) Different Jesus / (2) Different Spirit / (3) Different Gospel
Conclusions:
- The Word of God is the measure and test for truth
- Your conscience is your first line of defense against demons
- Demonic influence is an assault upon your mind

2 Thessalonians 2:9-12

They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.”
Luke 22:31-33

Mark 7:7-9
“They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’ You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.” And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!”
1 John 4:1-3
“Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.”

Galatians 4:1-5
“What I am saying is that as long as an heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. Ephesians 4:18-19

Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith. The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.”
Deuteronomy 13:1-3
“If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, “Let us follow other gods” (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,” you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
Hebrews 5:12-14
“In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”
