Jesus, as the Bread of Life

Jesus, as the Bread of Life

The picture of Jesus as compared to manna from the Exodus account is one filled with both similarities and differences.  It is within these dynamics that we find a challenge to our hearts today – to be reminded that we do not live by bread alone.

Observations:

Differences

  1. Manna expires, but Jesus does not
  2. Manna satisfies temporarily, but Jesus satisfies eternally
  3. Manna was a provision for physical life, Jesus is God’s provision for eternal life

Similarities

  1. Manna and Jesus are received by faith
  2. Manna and Jesus were offered daily
  3. Manna and Jesus were given freely by God’s grace

Conclusions:

  1. You need something more than bread
  2. Your spiritual solution is believing God’s Word
  3. The incarnate Word of God is Jesus

Applications:

  1. What do you hunger for?
  2. Do you believe God’s Word?
  3. Do you obey God’s Word?
  4. Have you come to Jesus?

Deuteronomy 8:3, 16

“He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”

“He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you.”
