Jesus, and the Bronze Serpent

Too often in the church, Jesus has been confused as cosmic genie that exists as a supporting character in our life’s screenplay. The reality however is that we all have been estranged from our God from humanity’s fall in the garden.

Jesus’ solution is both simple and exclusive, and He uses the Old Testament story of the Bronze Serpent to illustrate the nature of God’s love and grace, and to outline how we can find redemption through the work of the Messiah.

Observations:
The Son of Man

1. Jesus’ solution comes from God
2. Jesus’ solution is in response to a logical paradox for humans
3. Jesus’ solution is by grace
4. Jesus’ solution comes through faith
5. Jesus’ solution is simple and exclusive

The Bronze Serpent

1. The bronze serpent’s saving power came from God
2. The bronze serpent cure came in response to confession and repentance
3. The bronze serpent cure came by grace
4. The bronze serpent cure came through faith
5. The bronze serpent cure came in simplicity and exclusivity

Application:
1. Without help we will be condemned
2. Believing in Jesus means looking to him as the cure

1. I don’t have the answers, God does!

2. I’m stuck and I’m getting it wrong!

3. I cannot fix myself, I need a gift!

4. I trust in you!

5. Alone!
