The true follower of Jesus has a grounding in joy that the world rejects. As Jesus is leaving His disciples He brings them a message of hope to aid them through the upcoming moments and days. The crucifixion will be a devastating blow to their hopes, but Jesus’ promise to see them again is coupled with the great hope that their joy will never be taken away.
Observations & Conclusions:
- The Spirit’s witness in our hearts is the source of true joy
- The True Disciple is given direct access to God the Father
- The indwelling of the Spirit as our source of true joy brings peace
Application:
Remember – You are NOT alone!
We have anxiety when we…
- forget that He is already with us
- forget that He has promised to give us what we ask for
- forget that He has won the victory
Hebrews 4:14-16
“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven,Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Matthew 28:19-20
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
