Our relationship with God will determine the characteristics of “dead” and “alive” in our lives. According to our identity in Christ, we are united with him as presently “dead to sin” – and this reality, grounded in the facts of Jesus’ resurrection, will result in new life now!
Observations:
- The propositions of “died with Christ” and “live with Christ” are grounded in facts
- Sin is not dead to us, we are dead to sin
- “Reckon” is the reality of your mind
Conclusions:
- Jesus’ resurrection is His complete victory over death
- The fact of Jesus’ resurrection is our hope of new life now
- Our access to this hope is dependent on our identity in Christ Jesus
Application:
- Give your life to God through Jesus
- Give your mind to God as “dead to sin” and “alive to God”
- Give your body to God as an instrument of righteousness
Revelation 1:17-18
“When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever!”
Hebrews 7:25
“Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.”
Philippians 3:10-11
“I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.”
Galatians 2:20
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
