This world can easily be identified with a spirit of Babylon. She is that ancient type of describing the depravity of the kingdom of man. Nevertheless, God has placed His church and fashioned His people to be the light for the kingdom of God.
Preliminaries:
- Babylon represents the pinnacle of human debauchery in the kingdom of man
Observations:
- Babylon will seek to assimilate you
- Babylon is blind to its idolatry
- Babylon’s appetite is insatiable
- Babylon embraces the pride of man
As a citizen of heaven…
- You live in Babylon
- You are the light of the world
- You are to live with dependent contentment
- You must repent of the pride of man’s kingdom
Conclusions:
- If you are indistinguishable from Babylon, you will be destroyed in & by Babylon
- God has positioned His people as exiles in Babylon, but not to be of Babylon
- God will be with you in Babylon
Application:
- Do not compromise
- Do not conform
- Do not conceal
- Increase in commitment
- Increase in number
- Increase in influence
Revelation 17:3-5
“Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness. There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns. The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. The name written on her forehead was a mystery: Babylon the great / The mother of prostitutes and of the abominations of the earth.”
