Even though our world is in a period of change, the need for some ministries will likely never change. Our Food Ministry and Community Meal are two of those. However, both needed to be creatively adapted to fit our efforts for “social distancing” and quarantine.
Whereas we normally get a decent amount of food donated, in just this one past week, we had more food than we’ve ever had for a delivery. Our volunteers said it was more than they had ever seen. So much so in fact, that we’re going to suspend the Food Ministry for 2 weeks, so we don’t incidentally overload families with too much food!!! (If anyone hears of a family in need, please contact Sue, because we will have room to add to our list if this keeps up!)
The Community Meal had major adjustments. No gathering, no receiving dishes from anyone, a skeleton kitchen crew, deliveries, and extra gloves and masks were the solution to our social separation. But even so, we still served almost 3/4th of our regular plates. (Special thanks to all those who made deliveries, and who donated the to-go boxes).
Remember we are in this crisis together and therefore making adjustments together will get us through. Your neighbors will still need love, your community will still need care – let us work together and be smart in how we serve!
