Since 1952 our country has recognized the 1st Thursday in May as the National Day of Prayer. This day has great importance for our nation as a call to seek after God’s favor and guidance. It is our desire to come before Him in humility for the sake of those in authority, as the Apostle Paul writes, “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness” (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
The benefits and privileges of the freedom we share have been afforded to us at great cost. Yet, there are many in our world today who fail to recognize the call of God to “act justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8). As we all can see the ever increasing challenges of our world, it makes this National Day of Prayer all the more urgent that believers gather to worship through prayer in seeking after the wisdom, love, and meekness of the Lord.
Today we say thank you to you our community, and we consider it a privilege to pray for God’s blessings and favor over the 1st responders, active and inactive members of our military, teachers, health care providers, police and fire departments, and our local, regional, and national governmental leaders.
May the face of the Lord shine upon you and bless you this day. Amen.
